BUZZARDS BAY, MASS. – The Fisher College Softball team kicked off the 2022 season this afternoon with a pair of contests at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The Falcons came up just a bit short as the dropped game one 34-0 and fell in the finale 15-0. Fisher is now 0-2 on the young year while Massachusetts Maritime improves to 3-5.

Game One: Mass. Maritime 35, Fisher 0 (Final/5 inn.)

The game one jitters happened quickly and often for the Falcons as they dropped the season opener, 35-0.

Junior Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) was stellar inside the circle as she went the distance. In her collegiate debut, the right-hander struck out three batters over her four innings of work. Senior Linda Martinez (Madison, Miss.) recorded the first hit of the season in the fourth inning as she finished 1-for-2 in the opener. Sophomore Stephanie Faiella (East Boston, Mass.) along with juniors Naomi Mares (Pueblo, Colo.), Letty Chavez-Rendon (Chicago, Ill.) and senior Ashleigh Onfroy (East Falmouth, Mass.) all earned walks in the contest. Freshman Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was 0-for-2 at the plate but played well defensively in the outfield for Fisher.

Mass. Maritime's offensive outburst was highlighted by Kylie Deasy, who went 4-for-4 with six RBI. Maralie Pittsley also collected four hits and knocked in four RBI while Sicily DiDomenico finished 3-for-4 with four RBI at the plate. Inside the circle, DiDomenico picked up the complete shutout victory as she allowed just one hit over five innings and striking out twelve.

Game Two: Mass. Maritime 15, Fisher 0 (Final/5 inn.)

With game one behind them, the Falcons saw improvement in the second game as some good defensive plays stole the show as they fell 15-0 to the Buccaneers.

Kelley once again took the ball in the circle and tossed her second complete game of the day, allowing only eight hits over four frames. At the plate, Kelley smashed a triple – her first career hit – deep into the left-center alley as she finished 1-for-2. Defensively, the Falcons saw junior Nathalie Rodriguez (Guarbo, Puerto Rico) and freshman Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) record some terrific putouts while Mares was solid behind the plate as the team's catcher. Classmate Shaniah Hazard (East Providence, R.I.) was outstanding at first base for Fisher in game two with freshman Nayleemar Montalvo (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico) contributing on the defensive effort in the set back.

The Buccaneers saw Pittsley improve to 1-4 on the season as the left-hander tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts. Olivia Camelo was the offensive star as she went 2-for-2 with four RBI and Maia Ostromecki added three RBI on her 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday night as they host Pennsylvania State University – Schuylkill at Daly Field in Brighton, Massachusetts. Game one of the Continental Athletic Conference double-header is slated for 7pm. Mass. Maritime, meanwhile, will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Anna Maria College.
