Softball: Falcons stumble at home to Bay Path

BRIGHTON, MASS. – The Fisher College Softball team suffered a pair of losses this afternoon as they dropped both ends of the double-header against Bay Path University at Daly Field. The setbacks send the Falcons to an overall record of 0-10 while the Wildcats improve to 2-6 on the season.

Game One: Bay Path University 21, Fisher College 2 (Final/5 inn.)

After allowing two runs in the top of the first, the Falcons battled back by plating two in the home half before Bay Path pulled away with a nine run third in the day's first game.

Senior Linda Martinez (Madison, Miss.) got things started for Fisher as her RBI base hit scored classmate Naomi Mares (Pueblo, Colo.) to make it 2-1 Bay Path. A few batter later, fellow senior Shaniah Hazard (Providence, R.I.) laced a single to left-center that plated junior Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) to knot things at 2-2.

Kelley pitched well in defeat for the Falcons as the right-hander fell to 0-8 on the season. She allowed 21 runs (14 earned) on fifteen hits while striking out two in complete game effort. Offensively, Mares ended her opener going 1-for-3 with a run scored and sophomore Stephanie Faiella (East Boston, Mass.) was a perfect 1-for-1 with a walk.

Bay Path saw several hitters record multi-hit games however junior Daisy Guzman (Maricopa, Ariz.) was the leader as she went 3-for-4 with five RBI while also picking up the win inside the circle. Guzman scattered four hits over five innings with four strike outs as she improved to 1-3 on the season.

Game Two: Bay Path University 11, Fisher College 1 (Final/5 inn.)

Sophomore Letty Chavez-Rendon (Chicago, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI however the Falcons fell in the nightcap, 12-3 to the Wildcats.

Chavez-Rendon smashed a RBI single to right field that plated Kelley, who doubled, in the third and in the fifth, she added a RBI ground out that also scored Kelley. She also recorded a double in her first at-bat in the second inning. Kelley was also 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored as Hazard and junior Ashleigh Onfroy (East Falmouth, Mass.) registering base knocks in the contest.

Chavez-Rendon also was credited with the loss inside the circle as she allowed six runs (all earned) on six hits while walking three over two innings of work. Kelley then spun the final three frames surrendering six runs (four earned) on five hits and walking two.

Bay Path freshman Madisyn Vera (East Hartford, Conn.) was the offensive star for the Wildcats in game two as she finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Also plating two RBI each were freshmen Brooke Evanchak (Republic, Pa.) and Jailyn Harrigan (East Hartford, Conn.). Sophomore Emma Scheeren (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) earned the win inside the circle as she allowed three runs (all earned) on eight hits and striking out five.

Fisher will return to action next weekend with another double-header scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. Game one is slated for 12pm.
