BUZZARDS BAY, MASS. – The Fisher College Softball team returned to action this afternoon as they fell to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 11-0 and 11-2 as they finished up the four-game series. The Falcons are now 0-12 on the season while the Buccaneers improve to 5-15.

Game One: Massachusetts Maritime 11, Fisher College 0 (Final/5 inn.)

Freshman Nayleemar Montalvo (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico) recorded her first collegiate hit as the Falcons fell in the opener, 11-0 to the Buccaneers. Montalvo registered the lone hit for Fisher as she singled to shortstop in the second.

Mass. Maritime broke the game open in the second as they plated seven runs. Junior Letty Chavez-Rendon (Chicago, Ill.) threw the ball well inside the circle as she went the distance in another complete game effort. The right-hander tossed four innings allowing eleven runs (seven earned) on twelve hits and striking out two.

MMA freshman starter Sicily DiDomenico (Haverhill, Mass.) was tough all afternoon as she fired five innings of one-hit ball while striking out fourteen. Senior Camryn Roberts-Capak (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was the offensive star as she finished 3-for-3 with four RBI while freshman Rubi Butler (Plainville, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The defensive highlight of the opener came from Natalia Ortiz, who snared a hard hit ball in the first inning. Junior Nathalie Rodriguez (Guarbo, Puerto Rico) also played very well defensively for the Falcons in centerfield as she was able to quickly get the ball back into the infield to prevent runners from advancing on balls hit into the gap.

Game Two: Massachusetts Maritime 11, Fisher College 2 (Final/5 inn.)

Adjustments were made in-between games as the Falcons came out with two runs in the top of the first to take their first lead of the season, however the Buccaneers answered quickly with seven runs in the home half to earn the 11-2 victory.

Senior Shaniah Hazard (Providence, R.I.) had a career day at the plate as she was a perfect 3-for-3 while junior Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) and sophomore Stephanie Faiella (East Boston, Mass.) added base hits each. Freshman Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) also recorded her first career collegiate hit and RBI with a single in the first inning. She finished the contest 1-for-2 with the RBI, Kelley and Faiella ended their nights going 1-for-3 each.

Kelley was credited with the loss inside the circle as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on three hits in one inning of work. Chavez-Rendon then tossed the final three frames surrendering four runs (all earned) on four hits.

For the Buccaneers, senior Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass.) went the distance with five innings of work giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out six. At the plate, the veteran was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in the win. Graduate student-athlete Kylie Deasy (Norfolk, Mass.) collected two hits as she was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Butler added two more RBI on her 1-for-2 nightcap.

Defensively for the Falcons, freshman Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) flashed the leather multiple times, including a diving stop in the second inning to keep the Buccaneers off the board.

Fisher will remain on the road for their next scheduled contests as they travel to Franklin, Mass. for a Saturday afternoon twin-bill at Dean College. Game one is slated to begin at 12pm. Massachusetts Maritime will travel to Lasell University on Wednesday afternoon.
