BOSTON, MASS. – The Fisher College Softball team suffered a pair of setbacks this afternoon against fellow City of Boston opponent, Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Falcons fell by scores of 29-1 and 20-0 as they are now 0-14 overall on the season. The Leopards improve their 2022 record to 18-8.

Game One: Wentworth Institute of Technology 29. Fisher College 1 (Final/5 inn.)

Junior Ashleigh Onfroy (East Falmouth, Mass.) worked a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning however that was not enough to top a talented Wentworth squad in the opener.

Onfroy's RBI walk forced in classmate Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) to plate the only run for the Falcons. Senior Shaniah Hazard (Providence, R.I.) was 1-for-2 at the plate while junior Letty Chavez-Rendon (Chicago, Ill.) added a 1-for-3 performance. Also collecting a base knock was senior Linda Martinez (Madison, Miss.), who finished 1-for-3.

Both Chavez-Rendon and Kelley each spun two innings of work inside the circle for Fisher. Chavez-Rendon got the start and allowed 20 runs (nine earned) on nine hits while walking seven. Kelley only allowed five hits but surrendered nine runs (six earned) and issuing six free passes.

For Wentworth, they were led by the pitching performance from both junior Erin Hancock (Holden, Mass.) and freshman Katie Kranz (Bedford, Mass.). Each pitcher struck out six with Kranz earning the victory after throwing three innings and allowing one run on three hits. Offensively, the Leopards saw freshman Jess Rowe (Yardley, Pa.) go 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored while Senior Ceilidh Higgins (Medway, Mass.) was just 1-for-1 with four RBI and five runs scored. Junior Kaitlin Pettenger (Budd Lake, N.J.) also added four RBI from the leadoff spot for Wentworth.

Game Two: Wentworth Institute of Technology 20, Fisher College 0 (Final/5 inn.)

It took a special performance inside the circle for the Leopards to earn the game two win as graduate student-athlete Kayla DeMedeiros (South Dartmouth, Mass.) and Rowe combined for a five inning no hitter. The duo combined for eight strikeouts and four walks in the impressive performance with Rowe receiving credit for the win with three innings pitched.

Kelley was credited with the loss as she allowed twelve runs (six earned) on five hits and five walks in her inning of work. Chavez-Rendon then spun the final three frames and surrendered eight runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out one.

Offensively for Wentworth, senior Briana Beverly (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was the star as she was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Fisher will remain on the road as they travel to Nashua, N.H. on Thursday evening for a double-header at Rivier University. Game one is scheduled for 5pm. Wentworth will be at Salve Regina on Friday afternoon for a conference twin-bill at 4pm.
