Briarcliffe Run Past Falcons, 71-59

The visiting Briarcliffe College lady Bulldogs were victorious Sunday afternoon against Fisher College at Fectau-Leary Gym in Lynn, MA.  Guards Shenita Urquhart and Ifeanyi Ofili were unstoppable on the afternoon recording 41 of the Lady Bulldogs points.  Urquhart added six rebounds and 4 assists to go with her 19 points while Ofili led all scorers with 22 points and 8 rebounds.  In the losing effort Bernard led the Falcons with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

The visitors led by as many as 13 points midway through the first half before the Falcons got their offensive going.  Trailing 25-16 with just under 5 minutes left, sophomore Javanna Bernard (Hartford, CT/ Holy Cross) was unable to knock to a pair of three's to spark the Falcons comeback.  Junior guard Pam Bounkehoune (Fresno, CA/ Merced CC) was tremendous of the defensive end, forcing the Lady Bulldogs into turnovers on three straight possessions.   An 11-7 run to close out the half left the Falcons on trailing 32-27 at the break.

The Falcons turned up the defensive pressure starting the second half. Makenzi Peeler (Dorchester, MA/ Charlestown) scored two of her eight points on the day to cut the lead to 3.  After a Bulldogs turnover the Falcons leading scorer, Bernard was able to convert a three point play to tie the score at 32.

After trading baskets on consecutive possessions the Falcons gained their first lead since the opening minute when Pamela Bounkehoune bucket made it 40-38, Fisher.  Unfortunately for the Falcons they couldn't hold onto the lead for long.

Playing with only 6 players for the entire game, the Lady Bulldogs were able to use quick substitutions and a full court press to trier the legs of Fisher.  Briarcliffe started knocking down the three and finished off the game on a 33-19 run.

Senior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA/ Merced CC) was tremendous on the boards for the Falcons, finishing with 22 rebounds.  She also chipped in 10 points in the losing effort. Bounkehoune added 14 points, 9 assists and 3 steals.

With the loss the Falcons fall to 0-4 on the young season. The will return to action on Friday when they travel to West Hartford, CT to take part in the College of Saint Joseph's Tournament.
