Falcons Fall to Pine Manor, 90-49

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore forward Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.) scored a season-high 31 points to lead Pine Manor College women's basketball to a lopsided 90-49 victory over visiting Fisher College on Tuesday night at Brunelli Court. The win helps the Gators improve to 14-2 on the season. Fisher falls to 6-11 overall.

DeJesus led all scorers while also collecting a game-high 17 rebounds to record her tenth double-double of the season. Sophomore Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio) also registered a double-double for the Gators, scoring 19 points while grabbing 10 boards. Led by DeJesus and Lee, the Gators out-rebounded the Falcons by a 66-32 margin.

Fisher College senior Porsha Grayson (Merced, Calif.) also finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 boards in the contest. Classmate Javana Bernard (Waterbury, Conn.) finished with a team-high 16 points for the Falcons.

Pine Manor opened the contest on a 7-0 run, pushing their lead to 13 points midway through the first when DeJesus converted on the second of two free throws.

Fisher continued to hang around in the late stages of the first half, cutting the lead to single digits when Alexis Akridge (Union, N.J.) converted a layup to make the score 26-17 with 5:37 to go before the half. Akridge finished with nine points and six rebounds in the contest.

However, the Gators then went on a 14-0 run to close out the half and take a 38-17 advantage in the break.

Just as they did in the first half, the Gators opened the second half on a 7-0 run. Bernard snapped the streak of 21 consecutive Pine Manor points with a layup at 16:37 of the second but the Gators' lead only continued to grow. PMC led by as many as 42 points in the second half before eventually taking the 90-49 victory.

Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) and also finished in double-figures for Pine Manor. Vaughan scored 11 points and dished out a game-high six assists while Franklin added 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Fisher will return to the court on Thursday night when they travel to take on Albany Pharmacy at 6:00 PM. Pine Manor will also be in action at 6:00 PM Thursday, when they host Anna Maria at Brunelli Court. The Gators and Falcons will also meet again this season as Fisher is set to host a 5:30 PM contest on Wednesday, February 12 in Lynn, MA.
