Women’s Basketball Falls to MCLA 72-55

Boston, MA – The Fisher College women's basketball team fell to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Saturday afternoon by a score of 72-55. The Falcons drop to 0-4 while MCLA moves to 2-1.

The first half started off with the Falcons leading with a score of 2-0. MCLA took charge with 16:55 left in the half when Courtney McLaughlin hit a layup to put them up by seven; 11-4.

Alexis Akridge (Union, NJ) took charge for the Falcons in the first half. Akridge had 11 points and one rebound. Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA) and Christine Briggs (Rumford, ME) were also dominant in the first half for the Falcons. Murphy Carroll had five points and two rebounds, and Briggs had four points and four rebounds.

MCLA's top scorers in the first half were Kayla Hotaling and Brayleigh Hanlon with 15 and seven points, respectively.

The second half was tough match-up, with MCLA only outscoring Fisher by three, 31-28. Fisher broke out with a seven-point drive to cut the lead to eight, bringing the score to 45-37. Murphy Carroll and Akridge led the Falcons in the second half. Murphy Carroll had eight points and three rebounds, and Akridge had seven points and three rebounds. 

MCLA pushed ahead to finalize the score at 72-55. Top scorers for MCLA were Hotaling (20) and Svetlana Morrell (15).

Murphy Carroll (13 points, five rebounds), Akridge (18 points, four rebounds), Briggs (eight points, eight rebounds) and Madison Carroll (eight points, seven rebounds) were the Falcons' lead players in their loss to the Trailblazers.

The Falcons return to action after the holiday break on December 2nd, and head to Cambridge to take on the Lynx of Lesley University at 8:00 pm.
