
Boston, MA – The Fisher College Falcons took on non-conference opponent Mount Ida Mustangs Saturday afternoon at Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA, and suffered a 73-48 loss. The Falcons fall to a 1-6 record in the loss to the Mustangs, who improve to 3-5.
The game began in Mustang favor as Stephanie Champoux hit a jump shot to put the Mustangs up 2-0. In the next minute, Imani Bumpus hit a layup to up the score to 4-0. Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA) hit a layup to put the Falcons on the board 4-2.
The Mustangs went on a seven-point run to put the team up 17-7. Mount Ida went on another run, this time of 10 points to increase their lead over the Falcons to 25-11. Camila Da Silva (Everett, MA) hit a jump shot to cut the Mustang lead to 12.
With three minutes left in the first half, Shakieya Roland-Drake (Boston, MA) hit a three-pointer to bring the score to 31-20. Murphy Carroll caught the hot hand as she hit a three to cut the lead to eight, 31-23. Heading into the half, Mount Ida lead Fisher 39-28.
Shakieya Roland-Drake (Boston, MA), Murphy Carroll, and Da Silva were first-half leaders for the Falcons. Roland-Drake had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Murphy Carroll had eight points and four rebounds and Da Silva had four points with one rebound.
Mustang first-half leaders were Katlyn Jesse with 17 points and five rebounds. Other key players for the Mustangs were Trish Liotta (seven points), and Shanell Nardone and Champoux with five points and two rebounds each.
The second half remained in the Mustangs' favor as they outscored the Falcons 34-20. Mustang Angelique Martinez scored 12 points in the second half for the Mustangs. Martinez finished the game with a double-double – 15 points and 18 rebounds in the 73-48 victory.
Roland-Drake recorded a double-double for the Falcons with 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Murphy Carroll followed Roland-Drake with 14 points on the afternoon. Christine Briggs (Rumford, ME) racked 10 boards in the contest while scoring four points. Madison Carroll (Methuen, MA) helped out with seven points, but it wasn't enough to put the Falcons passed the Mustangs.
The Falcons return to action Sunday as they host the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 2:00 pm at Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA.
