
Boston, MA - Fisher suffered its ninth loss of the season when the women's team dropped Saturday's contest to the University of Maine-Fort Kent (UMFK). UMFK dominated the Falcons by a score of 107-39 and improved their record to 4-5.
The Falcons started the game down 5-0, but Christine Briggs (Rumford, ME) was able to cut UMFK's lead when she hit a three to change the score to 5-3. The Bengals then hit a layup to put them up 7-3, but Briggs hit another three to put the Falcons down by one, 7-6. UMFK then went on a 14-point run to put them up 21-6.
With 8:57 left on the clock, Alexis Akridge (Union, NJ) then hit a jump shot to give the Falcons double digits, but the Bengals were now up 33-10. The Falcons only managed 12 more points before time expired in the first half. Heading into the half, the Bengals were up 53-22.
Briggs took charge for the Falcons in the first half, scoring 10 points and grabbing two rebounds. Shakieya Roland-Drake (Boston, MA) managed five points while grabbing one rebound.
UMFK's Alexis Warne led the Bengals with 10 points and four rebounds. Danielle Carrillo scored eight points for the Bengals in the first half. Other key players for UMFK all scoring six points in the first half were Ericka Saucier, Maddie Lepore, Sabrina Head, and Jasmin Rowland.
Fisher started the second half cold, giving the Bengals the opportunity to score seven before Fisher sunk a shot, 60-22. Briggs hit the first shot for the Falcons with 17:14 remaining in the game to change the score to 60-24.
The Bengals went on another 14-point run to give them a 74-24 lead before forcing a Fisher timeout. After the time out, Akridge hit a jump shot to change the score to 74-26. UMFK continued to dominate the remainder of the game, finalizing the score at 107-39.
Despite the loss, Briggs managed 12 points on the afternoon. Akridge was another lead scorer for the Falcons with 10 points, Roland-Drake had nine points, and Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA) scored eight.
Several Bengals scored double-digit points in the contest. Carillo and Head both scored 15 points. Other key Bengals were Saucier (14 points, nine rebounds), Necole White (13 points), Warne (12 points, five rebounds), and Samantha Carapellucci (11 points, eight rebounds).
The Falcons closed out the first half of the 2014-2015 season with today's game. They will return after the break and take on Simmons College on Tuesday, January 6, at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA, at 5:00 pm.
