Plymouth, NH – Every member of the Plymouth State University women's basketball team scored en route to a 90-41 victory over Fisher College in non-conference action at Foley Gymnasium Thursday afternoon.
The Panther offense, which connected on 38-of-80 attempts (47.5%), erupted for its highest point total in more than five years. PSU last scored 90 in a win over Lyndon State College at home on December 10, 2009. The 49-point margin of victory was the team's largest since an 87-30 home win over Daniel Webster to open the 2007-2008 season.
PSU (6-5) had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Avi Morrison, who finished with 16 points, including 4-of-5 from long range. Senior Tiffany Lewis added 12 points and five rebounds, freshman Elisabeth Caron finished with 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds,and sophomore Ace Lawrence netted 10 points.
Fisher, stuck in a seven-game skid, was led by sophomore Alexis Akridge (Union, NJ), who finished with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA) added 11 points and six rebounds, while junior Shakieya Roland-Drake (Boston, MA) chipped in with nine points and eight boards.
Plymouth led from start to finish against the shorthanded Falcons, who dressed only six players. Lawrence opened the scoring with a three-pointer and PSU held a 7-4 lead through the opening five minutes. The Panthers connected on 9-of-12 shots over the next eight minutes, pushing the lead to 19 points (31-12). Sophomore Savannah Miller started the run with four quick points, while Lawrence and Morrison each hit from downtown. Freshman Immaculate Nyaigoti added quality minutes off the bench with two points, four rebounds, and a blocked shot to help PSU close out the half with a 47-22 lead.
Plymouth used good ball movement to get a number of open looks in the second half. Already leading 66-33, PSU finished on a 24-8 run over the game's final 10 minutes, including three triples from Morrison. The Panthers turned 23 Falcon turnovers into 33 points and assisted on 28-of-38 field goals while scoring 38 points in the paint.
Plymouth, winners of its last two, looks to carry the momentum into an important stretch of seven straight Little East Conference games. The Panthers travel to Western Connecticut State for a 1:00 pm game on Saturday. Fisher (1-11) next plays at Lyndon State on Sunday.
