
Boston, MA - Fisher College women's basketball team dropped to 3-16 on the season with the loss to non-conference opponent Pine Manor College, 83-49. Pine Manor improved to 9-6 with the win over the Falcons.
Fisher jumped to a 2-0 lead when Christine Briggs (Rumford, ME) hit the tip to teammate Madison Carroll (Methuen, MA) and she went unassisted to the basket. Gator Sybil Lynch then netted a three-pointer to put the visitors up 3-2. Madison Carroll then passed the ball to Alexis Akridge (Union, NJ) to bring the score to 5-4 in favor of the Gators. With just over 14 minutes left in the first half, the Gators managed to take a 9-4 lead over the Falcons.
The Gators were able to tack on two points before Fisher called a timeout, taking an 11-4 lead. Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA) added four for the Falcons to bring them within five of the Gators, 13-8. Madison Carroll netted a shot from behind the arc with over five minutes left in the first half to cut the Gators lead to 17-11. Akridge then hit a jumper just inside the arc to bring the score to 17-13 in favor of the Gators.
Just over one minute left in the half, the Gators added another five points to make the score 22-13 in the visitors' favor. Murphy Carroll sunk a jumper for the Falcons to change the score to 22-15 with seven seconds left in the first half. Time expired before either team was able to sink any more shots, freezing the score at 22-15.
Murphy Carroll led the way for the Falcons with six points and grabbing five rebounds. Madison Carroll added five points for the Falcons in the first half. Akridge was another key player, scoring four points and grabbing two rebounds.
Alexis Lee led the Gators with eight points in the first half. Chaniya Swan was not far behind with seven points and two rebounds. Pine Manor had a few other key players who scored a total of seven points.
Pine Manor came out of the break strong, going on a 13-2 run and putting the Gators up 35-17 with 17:08 left on the clock. Later in the second half, Victoria Park (Lynn, MA) got fouled, which brought her to the line for two, hitting both shots to bring the score to 47-25, Gators' lead. The Gators continued to press the Falcons' defense and managed to bring the score to 64-31 in the opponent's favor with 8:06 left in the game.
The Gators managed to pace the second half and ran time down to finalize the score at 83-49.
Murphy Carroll led the Falcons with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Akridge followed suit with 16 points while only grabbing six rebounds. Madison Carroll was another key Falcon, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds in the defeat.
Lee dominated for the Gators, scoring 22 points in the Pine Manor victory. Other key Gators were Natasia Franklin (11 points, seven rebounds) and Sybil Lynch (10 points, seven rebounds).
Pine Manor is set to face off against Vermont Tech on Sunday, February 1, at 1:00 pm in their home gym in Chestnut Hill, MA. Fisher College's next game will take place on Thursday, February 5, when they travel to Chestnut Hill to rematch the Gators at 7:00 pm.
