Falcons Drop Season Opener to Eastern Connecticut

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Fourteen of the team's 15 players contributed a point or rebound as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team eased to an 84-40 non-conference victory over first-time opponent Fisher College  in its season-opener Wednesday night at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

Eastern scored the first ten points of the game and didn't allow a bucket through the first six minutes in racing to a 19-6 lead after one quarter.

Eight freshmen and nine newcomers saw action for Eastern, which got 14 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes from senior guard Julia DePoi, 11 points and eight rebounds from senior center Lexis Foster in 28 minutes and 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 11 minutes from first-year sophomore transfer forward Kelsey Santagata. Freshman forward Mya Villard contributed six points and eight rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.

Junior guard Madison Carroll (Methuen, MA) led the Falcons with 13 points and six rebounds.

Fisher College returns to action on Friday evening as they head to Wenham, Mass. to take on Gordon College in the second game of the Gordon College Tip-Off.  They will then play New England College on Saturday for their second game of the classic.
