Falcons Clip Machias To Make It Three In A Row

Lynn, MA - The Fisher Falcons Women's Basketball team is now 3-0 after beating University of Maine-Machias (3-1) this evening at Fecteau-Leary, 81-55.  Despite being outscored in the third quarter, 21-19, the Falcons never trailed in the game and the swarming defense caused 25 Clippers turnovers to propel them to the win.

Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) got the Falcons off to a hot start, scoring nine of her 11 total points in the first quarter to put the Falcons up 20-10 after the first ten minutes. Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA), coming off a 34-point game on Saturday, remained hot and tacked on six points and five rebounds in the first quarter, and another 10 points in the second quarter.  The Falcons took the lead to halftime shooting 40% from the field, while holding the Clippers to 19% from the floor.

The Clippers offense woke up after the break shooting 8 for 12 for the quarter, including a 12-point quarter from Tate Dolley.  The Falcons shooting also went cold in the third quarter, shooting just 25% on 6 for 24 shots, allowing Machias to stay within reach.  But Fisher responded in the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach with a 13-6 run to start the quarter.  Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) led the way in the 4th with nine points to seal the win.

Lara led all scorers with 25 points while also contributing nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.  Gaston continued to shoot well adding another 20 points to her season total, while each Gaston and Lara had four 3-pointers. Freshman Misha O'Neal (Tampa, FL) came off the bench and played well for the Falcons as she scored 11 points and had three steals while Piper Mali (Oro Valley, AZ) and Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) dished out a combined 13 assists.

The Falcons look for their fourth straight as they head up to Vermont for their first conference test against Green Mountain tomorrow for a 5pm start.
