Piper Mali Leads The Falcons To The Best Start In School History

Boston, MA - The Lady Falcons are now off to a 5-0 start after upending the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls this afternoon at the Winsor School, 63-35.  Junior Piper Mali (Oro Valley, AZ) led all scores with a season high 16 points to help secure the win for the best start in Fisher history since joining the NAIA.

The game got off to a slow start on both sides as neither team scored a basket until Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma,CA) finished a layup with 5:44 left in the first quarter.  Neither team got much going as the Falcons led just 8-5 after the first ten minutes of play. The Falcons shooters responded and got hot out of the gate in the second quarter outscoring the Owls 24-9.  Eggers led all scorers in the first half with nine points as she was able to control the paint against the Owl defenders.  The Fisher defense also continued to swarm their opponents as they forced 11 UMPI turnovers in the first half on seven steals, and forcing 24 turnovers overall.  The two teams went into the break with the Falcons up 32-14.

UMPI did all they could to stay close as the Falcons only outscored them 15-14 in the third quarter, but Fisher was able to put it away with an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter and finished it out with 63-35 win.  Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) continued to shoot well for her squad as she finished with 14 points while Eggers finished up with 11.  Jocelyn Mendoza (Morgan Hill, CA) led all players with 13 rebounds, her second game in a row to lead all players in that category.  Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) played well off the bench scoring six points, seven rebounds and two blocks on the afternoon.

Fisher will have the day off and then will hit the road to take on the NCAA Division I UMass-Lowell Riverhawks on Tuesday night at 7pm.
