The Lady Falcons Earn Their Sixth Win Of The Season Tonight Beating Rivier 77-66

Lynn, MA- Junior Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) scored a season high 37 points to go along with 11 rebounds and four steals to earn her second double-double of the season and pace the offense to a 77-66 victory over the visiting Rivier University Raiders (0-6), 77-66.

Fisher took control of the game in the first quarter as they jumped out to an early 14-6 lead at the 4:26 mark as Junior Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) sunk her free-throw after being fouled on a lay-up for the three-point play.  The Falcons maintained the lead throughout rest of the quarter, ending with a 22-19 lead after ten minutes of play.  Rivier responded with an impressive second stanza in which they shot 42% from the floor while holding the Falcons to just 30%.  Raiders Megan Hamel led her team with eight points in the second quarter on 3 of 5 shooting, and ignited an 8-0 run to give her team a 27-22 at the 7:31 mark.  The Falcons responded with their own 8-0 run to regain the lead 30-27, just two minutes later.  The two teams would play a game of seesaw the rest of the quarter, each having their share of the lead, but it was Fisher that would take the 39-37 edge into the locker room at the half.

With Fisher clinging to a 44-43 lead with four minutes left in the third, the Falcons offense caught fire and tallied 13 unanswered points to finish the third quarter up 57-43.  The Falcons held their opponents to just six points in the third and forced seven Raiders turnovers, while shooting a red-hot 50% from the floor.  The third quarter proved to be the difference as the Raiders could not get any closer than 11 points in the fourth. The Falcons held on for the victory despite shooting 26% from the floor and having four of the players fouling out before the final buzzer.

Aside from Lara, Eggers was the other Falcon to score in double figures with 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the home team.  Freshman Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) continues to be a rebounding machine as she added another 13 to bring her season total to 61, good for second on the team behind Lara.  Senior Jocelyn Mendoza (Morgan Hill, CA) also played well defensively for her squad as she tallied nine caroms as well.  The Raiders were led by Kaylee Kacavas who had 16 points while Hamel finished with a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.

The Falcons will be off for the Thanksgiving break and will return to action next Wednesday at home against the College of Saint Joseph's (VT) with the game slated to start at 5pm.
