Women's Basketball Falls To The Second Ranked Redhawks

Boston, MA- The Lady Falcons squared off against the second ranked Indiana University Northwest Redhawks (14-4) tonight at the Winsor Gymnasium, but could not pull out a victory as they fell 66-45 to bring their season record to 10-6. The loss is the third straight for the Falcons which marks the first time this season that the team has lost three in a row.

Fisher found themselves down early in the first quarter as they trailed 12-4 after six minutes of play, but back-to-back three pointers from Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) and Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) brought them back to 12-10 to close the early gap. The Redhawks answered with a three-pointer of their own and would take a 15-12 lead heading into the second quarter. Early in the second frame IU went on an 8-0 run giving them a 24-14 advantage with 5:38 remaining before the half. Lara provided a huge spark for the home team at the 2:02 mark in the second though as she drained a three from the right corner while being fouled. She hit her free throw to complete the four-point play to get her team back within six at 29-23. The Redhawks responded with a big 8-2 run to close out the half and would take a 37-25 lead into the break.

The third quarter proved to be the difference as the Falcons could only tally eight points in the frame, while the Redhawks scored 14 upping their lead 51-33 with just ten minutes left to play. The Falcons did all they could to stay in the game but could not claw their way back in and fell to the visitor 66-45. Free throw opportunities were a factor in the contest as the Redhawks went to the line 29 times, hitting 21 of their shots, while the Falcons were awarded just five free throws in the contest, hitting all five.

Three Falcons tallied double figures tonight with Gaston and Lara tallying for 14 a piece while Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) contributed with 12 points of her own in the losing effort. Four Redhawks were in double figures in the victory as Grayce Roach, Gina Rubino, Michelle Borgen and Chloe Salman combined for 56 of the team's 66 points.

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with the tip-off slated for 1pm at the Winsor School in Boston, MA.
