Lady Falcons Settle For A Season Split With The Knights

Randolph Center, VT- For the second time this season the Lady Falcons traveled to Vermont Tech to take on the Knights on Saturday afternoon. In the previous matchup back on November 12th, the Falcons came away with an 89-36 win, but on Saturday it was the Knights that came away with the victory as the Knights held the Falcons to 28% shooting from the floor. With the 78-63 win at SHAPE Gymnasium, the Knights earned a season split with the Falcons. With the loss the Falcons fall to 7-7, while the Knights improve to 6-4 on the season.

The Falcons could not get into a rhythm offensively early on, earning just 11 points over the first 10 minutes of play. The Knights took advantage over the last two minutes of the first quarter, going on a 8-0 run to end the first stanza to hold a 19-11 lead after one. The Knights extended their lead into the second on a Britney Alexis three-pointer, but the Falcons responded with their own 9-2 run to get back within four at 27-23 with five minutes showing on the clock in the second. Minutes later, a steal and a lay-up from Misha O'Neal (Tampa, FL) made it a two-point game forcing a Knights time out with the scoreboard showing 34-32 in favor of the home team. VTC had the answer out of the time out, finishing the quarter with the last nine points to take a 41-32 lead at the break.

The Knights continued to maintain their lead which got as large as 11 in the third, but back-to-back trifectas from Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) and Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) made it 49-46 with three minutes left in the third frame. But again the Knights finished the quarter strong, earning the last five points of the quarter to hold their biggest lead of the game at 60-48. Another run by the home team, this time an 8-0 run, to start the last quarter gave the momentum the Knights needed to hold off the Falcons. Two straight 3's from O'Neal and Lara got the Falcons back to within 13, but that was the closest they would get, falling 78-63.

Lara led the way for her squad, outscoring all players with 25 points while grabbing nine boards and six steals off the bench for Coach Ford. Lauren Allen (Long Beach, CA) and Eggers also tallied double digits as each finished with 10 points a piece in the losing effort. Kimah Stribling led the way for the Knights, finishing with a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. Her teammate Farah Mesidor also earned a double-double in the win, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, while also finishing with eight assists and four steals in the victory.

The Falcons will have the Holiday break to get back on track with their next matchup set for January 4th against the Wheaton Lyons whom they defeated 78-55 in the 2018 campaign.
