Lady Falcons Comeback Falls Short Against The Washington Adventist Shock

Takoma Park, MD- Trailing by just one point late in the third quarter, the Lady Falcons made a strong push to knock off conference rival Washington Adventist on Sunday afternoon. But the Shock outscored the Falcons 16-8 over the last seven minutes of play to take the 65-58 win at home improving the Shock's record to 7-7. With the tough loss the Falcons drop to 8-8 and 0-1 in AII Conference play. 

The Falcons got off to a slow start, scoring just 12 points in the first quarter, hitting just five shots over the first 10 minutes of play and trailing 18-12. WAU shot just 24% in the second quarter, but outrebounded FC 18-8 in the second to maintain the advantage. The Shock used nine offensive rebounds to hold a 32-25 lead heading into the locker room at the half. The Shock continued to lead into the third, going up by as many as eight points but the Falcons would not let down. A huge 3-pointer with 48 seconds left on the clock in the third from Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) brought the Falcons to within one at 39-38. A pair of free throws from WAU's Sarah Shamdeen put the home team back up 43-39 heading into the final stanza. Seven straight points from Lara gave Fisher their first lead of the game, 50-49, with 7:07 remaining. The Shock responded though, with a key 8-0 run over the next four minutes and would hold a 57-50 lead after a pair of free throws from Amber Morman at the 3:17 mark. The Falcons pulled to within four after a Lara lay-up with 1:38 left in the game, but the Shock would hold on and take home the 65-58 win.

Lara led all scorers, scoring a season-high 31 points in the losing effort. She also added six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Lauren Allen (Long Beach, CA) finished with a balanced effort tallying seven points, five boards and three assists, while Piper Mali (Oro Valley, AZ) added nine points for the Falcons. Shamdeen led the way for the Shock, dropping 30 points while adding six boards. Morman added 12 rebounds for the Shock, while Diamond Rankine was the only other Shock to finish in double figures with 10 points. 

The Falcons are back at it on Tuesday when they cross the bridge to Cambridge to take on the 5-7 MIT Engineers. Catch all the action live here.
