Women's Basketball Loses A Hard Fought Battle Against The Bobcats

Boston, MA- The Women's Basketball team headed into Sunday's action looking to snap a 3-game skid against a team they had faced and lost 69-64 to on Opening Day back on November 2nd. And despite owning a 27-26 lead at the half, the Falcons could not hold on, falling 59-51 at the Winsor School Gymnasium. With the loss, the Falcons record stands at 8-11, while the Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo Bobcats improve to 16-4 on the year.

Fisher bounced back in the second quarter after a first that produced only eight points and had them trailing 14-8 after the first ten minutes of play. FC outscored the visitors 19-12 in the second stanza, holding the Bobcats to just 25% shooting from the floor. Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) and Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) combined for 13 points in the second and helped their team to a 27-26 lead at the break.

The Bobcats would not go quietly though, using an 11-3 run in the first six minutes of the third to go ahead 37-30. Fisher's Misha O'Neal (Tampa, FL) responded with back-to-back jumpers, including a trifecta from the corner to make it a two-point game with 2:52 left in the third. BSC made another 6-0 run to try to pull ahead for good, but again O'Neal had the answer, collecting one of her five steals for an easy lay-up to make it a 43-39 game after three full quarters.

Six straight points from the visitors kicked off the 4th, giving them their biggest lead of the game, 49-39 with 7:20 remaining. O'Neal knocked down another 3-pointer from the same spot, getting her team back to within five with five minutes on the clock, but that's the closest the Falcons could get as the Bobcats hung on for the 59-51 victory.

O'Neal tied her season high in both points (17) and steals (5), leading all scorers in the contest. Eggers notched her third straight double-digit performance with 14 points, and finished with her first double-double of the season, adding 11 rebounds. Senior Angel Bernardi (Cloverdale, CA) tallied 11 boards in the losing effort, her career high. Tealaya Huff led the way for the Bobcats, coming off the bench and notching an impressive performance of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Alissa Johnson and Shamecca Minor also finished in double figures for BSC, adding 11 and 13 points respectively.

The Falcons will look to end the skid on Tuesday when they head to Pine Manor for a non-conference matchup against the Gators. The action kicks off at 6pm.
