Strong Second Half Surges The Falcons Past The Gators

Chestnut Hill, MA- Despite being down 27-24 at the half to the host, the Women's Basketball team outscored the Pine Manor Gators 36-21 in the last two quarters to capture a 60-48 win on Tuesday evening. The last two quarters proved to be the difference as the Falcons shot 47% from the floor in the last 20 minutes, while holding their opponents to just 10 baskets during that stretch. With the win the Falcons improve to 9-11 while the Gators fall to 3-8 on the year. 

After starting the game strong leading 15-13 after the first frame, the Falcons offense stumbled in the second. Hitting just 3 of 18 shots, the Falcons found themselves trailing the Gators 27-24 heading into the locker room. While the Gators held the edge in points at the break, the two teams were tied with 21 rebounds and 11 forced turnovers each in the first two stanzas. 

PMC scored the first four points of the third gaining their biggest lead of the game at seven, but the Falcons used an 18-2 run over the next six minutes of play to take a 42-33 lead with 2:13 left on the clock in the third. The Gators answered with their own 7-0 run to close out the third, with the Falcons hanging on to a 42-40 edge. The two teams continued to exchange baskets over the next four minutes with the Falcons up 46-44 at the 5:58 mark. But the Gators offense went quiet, and the Falcons hit 6 of 11 shots down the stretch to pull out the 60-48 victory. 

Sophomore Lauren Allen (Long Beach, CA) led all scorers with 17 points, her season high, while shooting 54% from the floor and added five rebounds. Misha O'Neal (Tampa, FL) tallied her second straight game in double figures and finished with a career best seven steals and eight boards. Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) also notched a career high, finishing with 16 rebounds in the win. Kierra Jackson led the way for the Gators with 14 while Mandy Mastropasqua added 13 points in the losing effort.

The Falcons have the next few days off and will return to the court when they head up to Fort Kent, Maine to take on the Bengals on Saturday with the game slated for 1:00pm.
