Women's Basketball: Mason leads Fisher past Albertus Magnus, 53-50

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – In a battle of the Falcons, it was the Fisher College Women's Basketball team that pulled out a gritty 53-50 victory over host Albertus Magnus College this evening. The win evens Fisher's record at 2-2 while this was the season opener for Albertus (0-1).

Junior Alexia Mason (Los Angeles, Calif.) was the team leader for Fisher. The transfer from El Camino College registered her first double-double in a Fisher uniform as she scored 16 points and collected 14 rebounds. Classmate Shaniah Hazard (Providence, R.I.) matched Mason with her own double-double of 10 points and the game-high 17 rebounds. Freshman Angela Steingrimsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland) dished out four assists while netting nine points and junior Katie Salas (Placentia, Calif.) finished with six points and five rebounds.

Albertus saw sophomore Kyah Nowlin (Stamford, Conn.) reach double-figures with 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds on the night while both junior Emma Pierson (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Alexis Pendziwater (East Haven, Conn.) chipped in with nine points each. The freshman duo of Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) and Natasha Rivera (Ansonia, Conn.) rounded out the starting five for the Falcons as they each finished with seven points and three assists. Freshman Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) came off the bench and added four points in the loss for Albertus.

Next up for Fisher will be the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Championship tournament. The semifinal game features the fourth-seeded Falcons against top-seed College of the Ozarks. Game time is set for 1pm EST from Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, Arkansas.
