Women's Basketball: Falcons fall in season opener at NVU Classic

JOHNSON, VT. – The Fisher College Women's Basketball team kicked off the 2021-22 season this afternoon with a 67-46 setback against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon at the NVU Tip-Off Classic, hosted by NVU-Johnson. The Falcons battled hard in the first half before dealing with foul trouble in second half in falling to 0-1 on the season while the Hornets are now 1-0.

Senior Alexia Mason (Inglewood, Calif.) and freshman Ariana Ramos Cardona (Isabela, Puerto Rico) led the team with 13 points each along with shooting 50% from the floor. Ramos Cardona was 6-for-12 in her collegiate debut while the veteran Mason shot 4-for-8 and collected 10 rebounds for the games only double-double. Junior Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) added seven points in her return to the blue-and-white along with scooping up six rebounds and a blocked shot.

NVU-Lyndon was guided by a 20-point effort from freshman Riann Fortin (Derby, Vt.), who was near perfect from the floor shooting 8-for-10 and totaling five rebounds. Classmate Sage Smith (Colebrook, N.H.) added 15 points and senior Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, N.H.) chipped in with 10 points to account for all of the double-digit scoring from the Hornets. Senior Faith Portier (Portsmouth, N.H.) contributed nine points off the bench in the win.

Fisher will return to the court tomorrow afternoon at 1pm as they take on Vermont Technical College in the NVU Tip-Off Classic consolation game. The Hornets will take on the host Badgers for the championship at 3pm.
