Women's Basketball: Falcons double up in win over UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Fisher College Women's Basketball team used a 20-point opening quarter as they picked up their third consecutive win with a 59-53 final at the University of Maine-Presque Isle. The Falcons soar to 6-10 overall on the season while the Owls fall to 7-7 on the year.

A pair of Falcons recorded double-doubles to pace the effort as seniors Alexia Mason (Inglewood, Calif.) and Misha O'Neal (Tampa, Fla.) notched double digit points and rebounds. Mason finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, her second straight game with double-double, while O'Neal added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Tatiano Bruno (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) added 11 points and eight assists in the win. Also shining bright was senior Shaniah Hazard (Providence, R.I.) who ended her night with seven points and seven rebounds.

UMPI was guided by the offensive output from sophomore Alexis Ireland (Howland, Maine), who registered her own double-double with 17 pints and 11 rebounds. Also hitting double-digit points for the Owls was senior Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, Maine) as she finished with 15 on the night. Fellow seniors Sarah Musselman (Turlock, Calif.) and Rebecca Davis (El Paso, Texas) added eight and seven points, respectively, in the loss.

Both teams will be back in action on Friday afternoon. The Falcons will host the University of Maine-Fort Kent in a 5pm game between the former Sunrise Conference foes. UMPI will travel to Maine-Farmington for a pair of conference contests.
