Women's Basketball: Falcons tripped up at UMF Classic opener

FARMINGTON, MAINE - The Fisher College Women's Basketball team dropped the contest this evening to UMaine-Farmington, 47-39 at Dearborn Gymnasium. The win sends the Falcons season to 1-3 for an overall record. UMaine-Farmington rises to 1-2.

Senior Naomi Mares (Pueblo, Colo.) led the offensive effort for the Falcons as she totaled 18 points in her 40 minutes of play. Senior Madison Kelley (Moosup, Conn.) and junior Ladeja Robinson (Boston, Mass.) each added 8 points. Kelley led the team in rebounds with 13 while Robinson added 11. Sophomore Nayleemar Montalvo (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico) chipped in with 3 points and Jada Braggs (Craig, Colo.) added 2 points in the loss for the Falcons.

UMaine-Farmington was paced by junior Jaycie Stevens (Pittson, Maine) with 10 points and sophomore Jalyn Stacey (West Baldwin, Maine) provided help with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) chipped in with 7 points while classmate Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) grabbed 12 boards alongside Stacey in the win for the Beavers.

Both teams will be back in action when they return to the court tomorrow for the last day of UMaine-Farmington's tip-off tournament. Fisher will be facing the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 1pm. UMaine-Farmington will host Lasell University at 3pm.
