PITTSBURGH, PA. – The 2023-24 season began this evening for the Fisher College Women's Basketball team as they traveled to western Pennsylvania for a tilt with an NAIA opponent in Point Park University. It was an eye-opener for the young Falcons, who boast seven freshman on this year's squad, as they fell 121-19 to the Pioneers.

Senior Ladaeja Robinson (Boston, Mass.) led the team with six points and newcomer junior Olivia Hamel (Estes Park, Colo.) added five points and collected the game-high with nine rebounds in her debut in the blue-and-white. Junior Ariana Ramos-Cardona (Isabella, Puerto Rico) finished with seven rebounds in the season opening setback.

Point Park saw five student-athletes reach double figures in scoring, led by graduate-student Gillian Piccolino's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 20 points. Senior Ari Bleda (Barcelona, Spain) and junior Emma Pavelek (Beaver, Pa.) totaled 18 and 16 points, respectively, in the starting five while senior Coral Homs (Tona, Spain) and junior Isabella Pelaia (Mars, Pa.) added double-digit efforts off the bench as Homs finished with 17 and Pelaia with 15.

Both teams will return to action tomorrow afternoon. The Falcons will continue their road trip as they take on Wilberforce University in Ohio. The Continental Athletic Conference game is slated to begin at 1pm. Point Park, meanwhile, stays at home to take on another CAC basketball member in Penn State-Schuylkill at 5pm.
