The Lady Falcons Comeback Falls Short Against The Cannoneers

Brookyln, NY- The Falcons Women's Soccer team got a pair of goals from Will Memeus (Everett, MA), but could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit, falling to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (1-0).

The Falcons came out of the gate strong as Memeus had the first shot of the game within a minute of the start of the match. But it was the Cannoneers who struck first as Lily Gaunt earned her first goal of the season at the 5:28 mark. The Cannoneers tallied another goal not even a minute later when PI's Maralina Moore knocked home the second goal of the game off a cross from Min Olivieri to put the home team up 2-0 in the first six minutes of play. Fisher's Olivia Sullivan (Milford, MA) and Carla DaSilva (Somerville, MA) both had opportunities to bring the game within one, but Pratt's keeper Carly Kline was able to keep her team up 2-0.

Fisher did all they could to keep Pratt off the board again before the intermission, outlasting Pratt's 10 shots over the rest of the half, but with just under two minutes remaining in the first, Daniele DePontes connected for her first collegiate goal off a corner kick from Brittany Lovegrove to give Pratt a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Lady Falcons would not give up though as they came out firing out of the intermission. Back-to-back corner kicks from Tiffany Martinez (San Francisco, CA) in the 64th minute gave Fisher a chance to get on the board, but a kick from Sullivan struck the crossbar and the score would remain 3-0. Fisher kept on the pressure though, making it a 3-1 game when Memeus connected with Grace Roach (Hutchinson, MN) and put it by Kline to get within two. The Falcons continued the aggressive play, keeping the ball in their offensive zone, collecting the next four shots of the game before beating Kline again to get within one. Memeus earned her second goal of the day, finishing a cross from junior transfer Meghan Menzel (Big Rock, IL) making it a 3-2 game. However, with 2:40 remaining in the contest, Lovegrove launched a goal from 25 yards out beating Fisher's keeper Kassie Lima (Boston, MA), to put the game out of reach for the visitors, falling 4-2.

Lima would take the loss, the first of her career, despite stopping seven PI shots. Klein would earn the win for the Cannoneers, making two saves for the home team.

The Falcons will have a few days off before they head back on the road to take on the Bay Path University Wildcats on Wednesday at 4pm.
