Women's Soccer Takes A Loss In The Home Opener Versus The Owls

Medford, MA- After defeating the UMPI Owls twice in the 2018 season, the Falcons came into Sunday's matchup hoping history would repeat itself. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Owls had other plans. The University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls (2-0) remained unbeaten after two contests, handing Fisher its second straight loss, winning 5-0.

The Owls speed was displayed right after the whistle as Olivia Pelletier blazed down the field for an opening shot. The Owls kept the pressure on the Falcons, scoring at the 2:42 mark as Falcons keeper Kassie Lima (Boston, MA) was able to stop the first shot from Sara Doughty, but the deflection got loose for Marissa Reagle to knock it home for the early 1-0 lead. The Falcons held off the Owls over the next 18 minutes of play, creating shots for Olivia Sullivan (Milford, MA) and Meghan Menzel (Big Rock, IL), but neither could get by UMPI's keeper Savannah Rodriguez to keep the score 1-0. But just a minute later, Alexis Rodriguez got free down the left side of the pitch and drilled a high shot over Lima to give her team a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute. Rodriguez tacked on her second goal of the game at the 32:36 mark when her corner kick was deflected by a Fisher player to make it 3-0. The Owls added one more goal before halftime, as Reagle scored her second of the match on a feed from Olivia Pelletier to make it 4-0.

The Falcons did have three scoring opportunities in the second half on shots from Sullivan, Menzel and Sarah Graefe (Windermere, FL), but they could not find a way to notch a mark on the stat sheet. Kylie Vining added a 5th goal in the second half for the Owls and they went on to take the 5-0 victory.

Lima took the loss for the home team making seven saves in the losing effort, while started Savannah Rodriguez earned the win, making four saves in the first half.

Fisher will look to right the ship when they head to Mitchell College this Wednesday with the game set to start at 3:30pm.
