MEDFORD, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Soccer team picked up their first victory of the season this afternoon with a 3-1 triumph over visiting Northern Vermont University-Lyndon inside a rain-filled Hormel Stadium. The win evens the Falcons' overall record to 1-1-0 while the Hornets suffer their first defeat and fall to 0-1-1.

The rain played a factor early on as the slickness of the ball and turf limited opportunities early on. The Falcons finally broke the scoreless tie in the 21st minute when sophomore Kelly Wallace (Hanover, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first of the year. Minutes later, Wallace would add to the lead as she received a pass from classmate Juliette Dominguez (Hespira, Calif.) and knocked it home to give the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.

The Hornets would climb within one in the 39th minute. A corner kick from sophomore Riann Fortin (Derby, Vt.) landed inside the Fisher 18 however the clearance attempt by the Falcon defender was misplayed and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Senior Naomi Vivas (Mexico City, Mexico) scored the lone goal of the second half as she lifted her shot into the upper 90 off a feed from Wallace to give the Falcons a two goal lead and the final score of 3-1.

Sophomore Olivia Leo (Dunmore, Pa.) made two saves on the only two shots she faced on net to record the win, the first of her career, while NVU junior keeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, N.H.) made nine saves on 12 shots on net for the Hornets.

Fisher will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they travel down to New Haven, Connecticut for a 7pm contest at Albertus Magnus College. NVU-Lyndon will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 10 as they travel to Thomas College for a 3:30pm kickoff in Waterville, Maine.
