TAKOMA PARK, MD. – The Fisher College Women's Soccer team fell 2-0 to Spartanburg Methodist University this afternoon. The loss drops the Falcons to 2-9-2, while Spartanburg improves to 9-3 on the season.
Spartanburg's offense was led by sophomore CJ Hawkins (Travelers Rest, S.C.), who scored the first goal of the game at 36:50, assisted by freshman Johana Martinez (Hilton Head, S.C.). The Pioneers extended their lead at 42:26 with a goal from junior Caitlin Lagos (Spartanburg, S.C.), assisted by Hawkins.
Fisher had a few chances, with freshman Anai Vazquez (East Boston, Mass.) and senior Lea Bjorkhagen (Stockholm, Sweden) each registering a shot on goal, but were unable to score. In goal, senior Olivia Leo (Dunmore, Pa.) made 6 saves over 90 minutes of play.
Spartanburg's freshman goalkeeper Ava Wilson (Greenville, S.C.) earned a shutout, making 3 saves in 90 minutes.
Fisher will return to action tomorrow, facing Washington Adventist in a conference game at 5:00 pm. Spartanburg will continue their road trip, traveling to Talladega College on October 25 for a 2:00 pm start.
