Women's Volleyball: Falcons sweep past WAU

TAKOMA PARK, MD. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team picked up a pair of Continental Athletic Conference wins this evening as they defeated Washington Adventist University 3-0 and 3-0 in a conference double-header. The wins propel the Falcons to an overall record of 16-5, 2-0 in the CAC while the Shock fall to 2-7 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

Game One: Fisher College 3, Washington Adventist 0 (Final)

Playing in their first conference games since 2019, the Women's Volleyball team powered past Washington Adventist in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 25-20.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down a game-high 10 kills while also collecting 10 digs. Classmate Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) chipped in with seven kills and a .538 hitting percentage as fellow senior Ashly Velazquez (Downey, Calif.) added five kills and a block solo. Sophomore setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) directed the team with 25 assists and classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scooped up 14 digs along the backline.

WAU was paced by the all-around effort from senior Sara Adalla (Nashville, Tenn.), who led the team with six kills and added six digs and two block assists in the opener. Junior Lynnell White (Washington, D.C.) handed out eight helpers for the Shock with freshman Samiah Gross (Great Mills, Md.) providing defensive help with 11 digs. Senior Amber Nicole Morman (Cleveland, Tenn.) chipped in with five kills in the setback.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, Washington Adventist 0 (Final)

The Falcons completed the double-header sweep as they took all three sets in the finale by scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-14.

Barnes once again was the offensive leader as she totaled 11 kills with a .611 hitting percentage as well as collecting 13 digs defensively. Freshman Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) swung at a .500 clip with seven kills and both Al-Juriashi and Ashly Velazquez each added five kills, respectively. Paola Velazquez dished out another 26 assists in the win while Irizarry collected 12 digs. Freshman Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) added three kills in the victory for the Falcons.

WAU was led by Adalla who had five kills, eight digs and three total blocks. Gross picked up 11 digs and senior Anastasia Allen (Waldorf, Md.) handed out four assists.

The Falcons move to 4-0 all-time against Washington Adventist dating back to the 2018 season. Next up for Fisher will be a four-game weekend beginning with a Saturday tri-match at Castleton University with Plymouth State. On Sunday morning, the Falcons will host the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 10am. WAU is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday evening at Christendom College.
