Women's Volleyball: Falcons split tri-match at Castleton

CASTLETON, VT. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 in the double header losing 3-0 to Plymouth State University and winning 3-0 over Castleton University. The split brings the Falcons to an overall record of 17-6, Plymouth State rises to 16-4 while Castleton falls to 4-17.

Game One: Plymouth State University 3, Fisher College 0 (Final)

The Women's Volleyball team falls to Plymouth State in straight sets by scores of 17-25, 21-25, and 18-25.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down 16 kills while also collecting 10 digs. Classmate Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) chipped in with 5 kills. Freshmen Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) and Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Lilliana Figueroa (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) had 4 kills a piece. Senior Ashly Velasquez (Downey, Calif.) added 3 kills, 21 assists, and 8 digs in the loss.

Plymouth State was paced by senior Emilee Flanagan (Milton, NH) with 11 kills and following her is classmate Nora Ryan (Groton, Conn.) with 10 kills. Sophomore's Lilli Stogner (Weare, NH) and Morgan Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine) chipped in with 4 kills a piece. Assists for the team were led by freshman Riley McDonough (Gilford, NH) with 17 and following her is classmate Kalista Butler (Philipsburg, PA) with 16.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, Castleton University 0 (Final)

The Falcons completed the double-header sweep as they took all three sets in the finale by scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-18.

Barnes once again was the offensive leader as she totaled 14 kills and 4 aces as well as collecting 16 digs defensively. Freshman Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) swung at a .478 clip with 12 kills while freshman Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) followed with 9 kills. Senior Ashly Velasquez dished out another 18 digs and added 4 kills while sophomore Paola Velazquez added 20 assists. Classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) added 19 digs in the win for the Falcons.

Castleton was led by freshman Jenna Schott (Burwell, Neb.) with 10 kills and 3 digs, following her is sophomore Vanessa Lebrun (South Glens Falls, NY) with 9 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Maddie Delsignore (Queensbury, NY) chipped in with 23 assists and 9 digs. The defensive effort for the Spartans was led by junior Caitlyn Mahoney (Fort Edwards, NY) with 16 digs.

Fisher will end a four-game weekend with a double-header against the University of Maine-Presque Isle starting at 10am the 16th. Plymouth State will be headed to Middlebury College on Tuesday with a 7pm start time. Castleton will also be playing on Tuesday at 7pm to face Suny Cobleskill.
