Women's Volleyball: Falcons rally for DH split with UMFK

BROOKLINE, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 on their Senior Day as they hosted the University of Maine-Fort Kent losing 3-0 and then turning it around, winning 3-2 in a double-header. The split sends the Falcons to an overall record of 24-9, 2-0 while the Bengals fall to 19-5 overall.

Game One: Maine-Fort Kent 3, Fisher College 0 (Final)

Facing the Bengals for the second time this season, the Women's Volleyball team dropped the match in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-14.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down 6 kills while also collecting 14 digs. Fellow senior Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) had 5 kills while freshman Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.), freshman Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Lilliana Figueroa (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) added 3 kills a piece. Sophomore setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) directed the team with 13 assists and classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scooped up 17 digs along the backline.

Maine-Fort Kent was paced by freshman Jamie Nena (Hawaii) and senior Abbi Thompson (Monroe, OH) each having 6 kills. Freshman setter Kayla Iwata (Hawaii) gave an all around effort with 5 kills, 12 assists, and 12 digs for the Bengals. Sophomore libero Halle Ham (Richmond, TX) chipped in with 5 assists and 29 digs in the win.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, Maine-Fort Kent 2 (Final)

The Falcons completed the double-header as they pushed a 5 set match and won by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-15, 20-25 and 15-9.

Barnes once again was the offensive leader as she totaled 18 kills and 13 digs. Alicia Tkach pitched in with 13 kills and 10 digs while Aya Al-Juraishi added 8 kills. Senior Ashly Velasquez contributed 7 kills and 12 digs. Paola Velazquez dished out 43 assists in the win while Irizarry collected 23 digs.

Fort Kent was led by Nena once again who had 14 kills and 11 digs. Abbi Thompson followed with 13 kills while freshman Torrie Woods (Pasadena, TX) contributed 12 kills. Ham dished out another 6 assists and 34 digs while Iwata dished out 22 assists. Junior setter Beatriz Garrido (Madrid, Spain) chipped in with 19 assists and 7 digs.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow when they face each other for the last time this season starting at 11am.
