Women's Volleyball: Falcons close out regular season with win over UMFK

BROOKLINE, MASS. - The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team won the contest over the University of Maine-Fort Kent, 3-2 in Pappas Gymnasium. The victory ends the Falcons regular season being 25-9 overall. Maine-Fort Kent slides to 19-6 going into playoffs.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down 19 kills while also collecting 13 digs. Fellow senior Natalia Ortiz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) had 12 kills and 21 digs. Seniors Ashly Velasquez (Downey, Calif.) had 7 kills, 10 assists, and 15 digs while classmate Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) pitched in with 7 kills. Sophomore setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) directed the team with 34 assists and 15 digs and classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scooped up 37 digs along the backline.

Maine-Fort Kent was paced by freshman Torrie Woods (Pasadena, TX) with 14 kills while classmate Jamie Nena (Hawaii) and senior Abbi Thompson (Monroe, OH) each having 12 kills. Nena also grabbed 20 digs for the Bengals. Freshman setter Kayla Iwata (Hawaii) gave Fort Kent 21 assists and 20 digs in the loss. Sophomore libero Halle Ham (Richmond, TX) chipped in with 4 assists and 31 digs.

Both teams will be back in action this week as they head into the post-season playoffs. Fisher will be traveling to the hosting Florida College to play on Friday. Maine-Fort Kent will be traveling to Virginia Beach to play on Thursday.
