Women's Volleyball: Falcons earn 4-seed in CAC Tournament

TEMPLE TERRACE, FLA. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team went 0-3 in their first day in the Continental Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Florida College. The losses send the Falcons into tomorrow needing two straight wins to claim the title of conference champions. Fisher will be facing Florida College again at 1pm tomorrow to start the day.

Game One: Haskell Indian Nations University 3, Fisher College 1 (Final)

Facing Haskell for the first time this season, the Women's Volleyball team dropped the match with scores of 25-10, 25-12, 26-28 and 25-21.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down 12 kills while also collecting 21 digs. Fellow senior Natalia Ortiz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) had 6 kills and 20 digs while classmate Ashly Velazquez (Downey, Calif.) added 5 kills and 9 digs. Sophomore setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) directed the team with 24 assists and scooped up 21 digs while classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) grabbed 25 digs along the backline.

Haskell was paced by sophomore Aysa Benally (Chinle, AZ) having 11 kills and 19 digs and junior Mary Big Horn (Poplar, MT) added 8 kills. Sophomore Mikeya Pelt (Tuba City, AZ) had an all around effort with 7 kills, 4 assists, and 18 kills. Junior Nakooma Pelt (Albuquerque, NM) chipped in with 7 assists and 27 digs while freshman Maria Stewart (Pryor, MT) added 32 assists and 20 digs in the win.

Game Two: Florida College 3, Fisher College 0 (Final)

The Falcons continued to push through the tournament losing in straight sets to Florida College with scores of 25-19, 24-9, and 25-19.

Barnes once again was the offensive leader as she totaled 9 kills and 11 digs. Ortiz followed once again having 5 kills and 14 digs while senior Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) added 4 kills. Paola Velazquez dished out 16 assists and in the loss while Irizarry collected 18 digs.

Florida College was led by senior Frista Trimble (Plant City, Fla.) with 11 kills while classmate Emma Noskey (Seffner, Fla.) chipped in with 9 kills and 25 digs. Junior Adriana Bravo (Caracas, Venezuela) added 4 kills and 14 digs. Senior Emilie Selvidge (Brandon, Fla.) had an all-around effort of 5 kills, 28 assists and 8 digs in the win for the Falcons.

Game Three: Florida National University 3, Fisher College 1 (Final)

The Women's Volleyball team dropped the final match of the day in a 4 set battle by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 26-24, and 25-21.

Barnes once again paced the Falcons as she totaled 11 kills and 30 digs. Aya Al-Juraishi and Ashly Velazquez followed, each having 5 kills. Velazquez also had 13 digs and 7 assists. Natalia Ortiz scooped up 20 digs while Edsyl Irizarry added 22 digs. Paola Velazquez dished out 24 assists and collected 10 digs.

Florida National College was paced by senior Joanne Dania (Willemstad, Curacao) having 16 kills and 15 kills and sophomore Gabriela Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) having 12 kills. Senior Margareth Collantes Choque (Cuzco, Peru) added 11 kills and 17 digs while sophomore Juliana Santos (San German, Puerto Rico) scooped up 28 digs. Sophomore Elis Cordova-Millet (Montour Falls, NY) dished out 28 assists and collected 15 digs while freshman Ivette Sandoval (Miami, Fla.) had 26 assists and 22 digs in the win.
