Women's Volleyball: Falcons drop season opener to Emmanuel

BROOKLINE, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team opened the 2023 season this evening as they welcomed Emmanuel College to the Pappas Gymnasium. The Falcons ultimately fell in straight sets to the Saints by set scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-12. It was the first game of the season for both programs as Fisher is now 0-1 while Emmanuel moves to 1-0.

Fisher was paced by freshman Sophia Campos (Guynabo, Puerto Rico), who collected 13 digs and added three kills. Also registering three kills in the match were sophomores Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) and Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.). Tkach chipped in on the defensive end with eight digs while Saucier combined for two total blocks. Junior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) dished out 10 assists in the loss. Classmate Lilliana Figueroa (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) led the team with four kills.

The Saints saw sophomore Wiktoria Galazyn (Plainville, Conn.) shine offensively with a game-high nine digs with classmate Isabella Marquez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) adding seven kills in the win. Marquez also recorded the game-high of 14 digs as she was one of four Emmanuel College student-athletes to register double-digit digs. Galazyn (11), junior Paula Tanguilig (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Kason Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each had 10 digs in the contest. Huynh was also the assist leader with 12 helpers while senior Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) provided additional help with 11 assists. Sophomore Maeve Gaffny (North Andover, Mass.) was a wall defensive as she totaled five blocks on the night.

The Falcons will return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Nichols College. Game time is set for 7pm. Emmanuel, meanwhile, won't return to action until Saturday, September 9 when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 10am.
