Women's Volleyball: Falcons clipped at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team suffered their third defeat to start the 2023 season this evening as they fell to Wellesley College, 3-0, by set scores of 25-14, 25-10, and 25-11. The loss moves the Falcons to 0-3 while the victory lifts Wellesley to .500 at 2-2 overall.

Sophomore Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) was the offensive leader for Fisher. The outsider hitter totaled a team-high three kills while also leading the backline effort with seven digs. Freshman Andrea Detres (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico) chipped in with a two-kill, five-dig performance while sophomore Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) finished with two kills and one total block. Junior setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) dished out seven assists to go along with her two kills and six digs. Freshman Sophia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) added a kill and six digs in the loss.

Wellesley was paced by freshman Kate Giang (Corte Madera, Calif.), who hammered down 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Classmate Madeline Zornek (Orlando, Fla.) handed out 15 helpers and sophomore Kiaja Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) totaled 12 digs along the backline.

Fisher will return to action this weekend as they travel up to Vermont State University – Johnson for a pair of matches. Saturday's double-header is scheduled to start at 12pm. Wellesley will host the University of New England in a 2pm match on Saturday afternoon.
