Women's Volleyball: Falcons swept by Nichols

DUDLEY, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team fell on the road this evening at Nichols College in straight sets. The scores of the 3-0 loss were 25-14, 25-20, and 25-15. The Falcons are now 0-2 to start the young season while the Bison improve to 2-0.

Sophomore Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) paced the offensive effort as she led the team with eight kills and also collected eight digs defensively. Junior Lilliana Figueroa (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) and freshman Andrea Detres (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico) each added three winners in the loss. Junior setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) dished out 17 assists while classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) patrolled the backline with a team-high 13 digs. Freshman Sophia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was stellar defensively with 12 digs and sophomore Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) collected three total blocks.

The Bison saw senior Haylee Granato (Manchester, Conn.) record a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. Fellow senior Liz Diorio (Wolcott, Conn.) totaled the game-high with 21 digs and the sophomore duo of Kya Burdier (Haverhill, Mass.) and Ruby St. Onge (Coventry, Conn.) combined for 39 assists – 24 and 15, respectively. Junior Ryley Plourde (Bristol, Conn.) added 11 kills in the win for Nichols.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow night. Fisher will travel to Wellesley College and Nichols will be on the road at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Both games will begin at 7pm.
