Women's Volleyball: Falcons fall at home to UMass-Boston

BROOKLINE, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team fell this evening to visiting University of Massachusetts-Boston, 3-0 inside the Pappas Gymnasium. The loss sends the Falcons to a 9-21 overall record while the Beacons improve to 15-9.

UMB was victorious by set scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-21.

The Falcons were led by sophomore Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.), who recorded the team-high of seven kills. Classmate Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) chipped in with four winners and two solo blocks defensively while senior Emily Jenter (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) added three kills in setback. Junior setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) registered a double-double as she dished out 13 assists and collected 10 digs. Junior libero Edsyl Irizarry (Guyanbo, Puerto Rico) patrolled the backline as she scooped up 16 digs across the three-set match.

UMass-Boston was guided by freshman Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.), who notched the game-high of 12 kills to go along with her .393 hitting percentage. Senior Livia Trindade (Sao Luis, Brazil) also reached double-figures with 10 kills and freshman Katie Touhy (Groton, Conn.) finished with seven winners for the Beacons. The sophomore setting duo of Ruby Ackerman (Arcadia, Calif.) and Amelia Devlin (West Chester, Pa.) combined for 31 assists (17 and 14 helpers, respectively) while senior Ally Dean (Portland, Ore.) collected 12 digs. Sophomore Lauren Westlund (Phoenix, Ariz.) was stellar along the net as she recorded two solo blocks her only set played on the evening.

Fisher will return to the court tomorrow evening as they travel up to the University of Southern Maine for a 7pm contest. UMass-Boston will close out their regular season when they return to action on Saturday afternoon with a conference game at Eastern Connecticut State University. Game time is set for 2pm.
