WESTON, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team split a pair of matches on the road at this season's double header opener. The pair of matches send Fisher to an overall record of 1-1. The hosting Regis college finishes the day with 2-0 record, while Thomas College slides to a 0-2 record.
Game One: Fisher College 0, Regis 3 (Final)
The Falcons dropped the opener of the double-header to the Pride by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-9.
Senior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) paced the offensive attack for the Falcons as she gathered 4 kills. Freshman Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) added 3 kills and handed out 10 assists. The defensive effort for the Falcons was led by senior libero Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) having 11 digs during the match. Not far behind sophomore Sofia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was able to earn 10 digs herself.
Regis saw senior Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) register the team-high of 13 kills as sophomore Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) added 11 kills in the win. Graduate student Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the assist leader for the Pride with 15 helpers while first year Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in 11 assists as well. Tenorio and Mckinney collected 12 digs each defensively.
Game Two: Fisher College 3, Thomas (Me.) 2 (Final)
The day continued for Fisher as they now battled Thomas College. The Falcons were able to take the five-set match by scores of 22-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-21, and 26-14.
Senior Ali Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) led the team offensively as she totaled 11 kills, 4 assists, and 15 digs. Irizarry collected 29 digs to go along with her 4 serve ace points. Campos and Farinacci collected 19 digs each in the Falcons effort. Farinacci was also able to chip in with 7 kills and 8 assists, However Velazquez recorded the team high with 16 assists over the five sets. Freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) played her part contributing 7 kills as well as 3 serve ace points for the Falcon victory.
Senior MJ Rose (Modesto, Calif.) was the offensive leader for the Terriers as she recorded 12 kills over the five sets. Sophomore Sariah Putnam (Stockton Calif.) recorded 10 kills while first-year Einy Mendez (Suprise, Ariz.) was able to chip in 8 kills as well as the team high of 29 digs. Graduate student Halle Ham (Richmond, Texas) collected 27 digs along with 4 serve ace points. First-year's Ana Romero (Albuquerque, Nm.) and Kenn Zarger (Greensboro, N.C.) added 5 serve ace points each. Zarger's effort was also seen as she recorded 30 assists for the Terriers.
Fisher will return to the court on Wednesday evening as they battle Curry College. Game time is set for 5:30pm in Milton, Massachusetts. Regis will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts for a double header with Endicott College and Brandeis University. Thomas will be traveling as well as they play University of Maine - First Kent tomorrow with a start time of 2pm.
