Women's Volleyball: Falcons power past VSU-Lyndon

BROOKLINE, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team picked up two victories this afternoon as they took down Vermont State University – Lyndon, 3-0 and 3-0 in double header. The Falcons are tied up with a 4-4 record while VSU-Lyndon falls to 0-8.

Game One: Fisher College 3, VSU-Lyndon 0 (Final)

Fisher took the opening match of the day by set scores of 25-4, 25-9, and 25-6.

Senior Ali Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) hammered down 7 kills, 2 serve ace points, and 7 digs. Junior Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) and freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) finished with five kills each. Ramirez was able to tack on an additional 12 serve ace points as well as a block. Freshman setter Adriana Franco (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 10 assists. Sophomore Sofia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) patrolled the backline with 9 digs in the win.

The Hornets were paced by the offensive efforts from senior Charlotte Morris (Middletown, Del.), who led the team with 2 kills. Freshman Alexis Countermarsh (Springfrield, Vt.) as well as junior Kiara Mack (Winooski, Vt.) chipped in a kill each. Sophomore Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, Calif.) added 2 assists and a team high of 7 digs in the loss, while junior Emily Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) was able to gather 3 digs over the three set match.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, VSU-Johnson 1 (Final)

The Falcons rolled right into the final match of the day and claimed victory by set scores of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-6.

Ramirez was the team leader with 9 kills, 6 serve ace points, and 7 digs while Saucier added 8 kills in the win. Senior Mayouri Yath (Amhert, Mass.) broke out and tallied 5 kills and picked up 6 digs. Franco dished out 14 assists with 9 serve ace points. Freshman Diana Rios (Caguas, Puerto Rico) finished with 9 assists for the Falcons. Campos was stellar along the backline as she totaled nine digs.

VSU-Lyndon saw sophomore Hannah Badertscher (Irasburg, Vt.) register a kill with both Morris and junior Mary Grace Weissauer (Milford, Conn.) adding a serve ace point each. Mack was able to collect 2 blocks. Gonzalez finished with 8 assists while Anderson added 6 more digs for the Hornets defensive effort.

Fisher will remain on the road for their next scheduled contest with a trip to Salem State on Wednesday evening with a 6pm start time. VSU-Lyndon will travel to Vermont State University Castleton in their next scheduled matchup slated for Friday, September 20th.
