FORT KENT, MAINE – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team's short lived winning streak came to an end this evening as the Falcons fell twice on the road at the University of Maine-Fort Kent. With the pair of losses, the Falcons slide to just 5-6 overall on the season while the Bengals remain undefeated with a 7-0 record.
Game One: Fisher College 2, Maine-Fort Kent 3 (Final)
The Falcons dropped the opener of the double-header to the Bengals by set scores of 8-25, 25-21, 25-12, 22-25, and 15-10.
Senior Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) paced the offensive attack for the Falcons as she hammered down a team-high 11 kills while also totaling a season best of 24 digs. Classmate Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) added nine kills and freshman Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) finished with 8 kills, 15 assists, 3 ace save points, and 16 digs. Senior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) handed out 13 assists and scooped up 13 digs in the opener while classmate libero Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) added 25 digs to the Falcons efforts.
Fort Kent saw junior Maria Pena (Waldorf, Md.) register the game-high of 13 kills as well as a game-high of 28 digs. Both freshman Jamilyn Amina (Kapolei, Hawaii) and senior Kaylse Whitehead (Kingman, Ariz.) added 11 kills each in the win. Senior Carla Rodriguez (Gijon, Spain) was the assist leader for the Bengals with 46 helpers. Rodriguez as well as freshman Thea Mbemba (Paris, France) both chipped in defensively with 15 each for the win.
Game Two: Fisher College 1, Maine-Fort Kent 3 (Final)
The battle continued into the second game of the twin-bill however Fort Kent was able to take the three-set match by scores of 25-17, 25- 17, 21-25, and 25-16.
Tkach once again led the team as she totaled 7 kills and 10 digs. Farinacci collected a team-high of 19 digs to go along with her 4 kills and 13 assists. Irizarry chipped in with 14 digs while Velazquez dished out 10 assists, 9 digs, and 6 kills. Sophomore Sophia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) assisted in the defensive effort with 13 digs.
Amina and Whitehead steered the offense for the finale for the Bengals as they both recorded 12 kills over the three sets. Amina and Pena held the defense, gathering 23 digs a piece. Rodriguez fired away giving 34 assists while Whitehead, Rodriguez, and sophomore Nathalia Cintron (Haverhill, Mass.) had 3 serve ace points each in the victory for Fort-Kent.
Fisher will return to the court on Tomorrow afternoon as they battle University of Maine Presque Isle with a game starting time of 1pm. UMFK will be back in action Friday as they travel to Maine Maritime Academy with a tip off time of 12pm.
