Women's Volleyball: Falcons bounce back with wins at UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team picked up a pair wins this afternoon as they defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 3-0 and 3-1 in a double-header. The sweep propels the Falcons to an overall record of 7-6 while the Owls fall to 4-5 overall.

Game One: Fisher College 3, University of Maine-Presque Isle 0 (Final)

The Women's Volleyball team powered past UMPI in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-16.

Senior Ali Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) led the way offensively for the Falcons as she had 9 kills while also collecting 16 digs. Freshman Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) matched with 9 kills and followed with 8 digs. Senior setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) directed the team with 17 assists and 4 serve ace points while classmate Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scooped up 16 digs along the backline.

UMPI was paced by freshman Faith Graham (Heiskell, Tenn.) who led the team with 5 kills, 3 blocks, and 6 digs. Freshman Mia Gutierres (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 4 kills and the game-high of 18 digs. Seniors Kylee Blazick (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) and Alexis Engel (Cheyenne, Wy.) were able to contribute with 10 digs each. Engel was also able to chip in with 11 assists in the loss.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, University of Maine-Presque Isle 1 (Final)

The Women's Volleyball team completed the double-header against UMPI in sets by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-12, and 25-17.

Tkach led the way offensively for the Falcons as she hammered down 12 kills while also collecting 7 digs. Freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) followed with 11 kills, 6 serve ace points, and 8 digs. Farinacci directed the team with 24 assists and Velazques dished out an additional 10 assists. Irizarry scooped up the season-high of 32 digs along the backline to secure the victory.

UMPI was paced by freshman Jade Anspach (Pueblo, Colo.) who led the team with 9 kills. Graham dished out 7 kills and 14 digs while Blazick contributed 16 digs. Gutierrez led the defense with 19 digs while setter Engle chipped in 18 digs and 25 assists in the loss for the Owls.

The Falcons will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Lexington, Mass. to face Lesley with a 8pm start. UMPI will be facing Lesley as well as they travel to play with a start time of 11am.
