LAWRENCE, KAN. - Fisher College (13-11) faced a tough challenge during their tripleheader in Lawrence, Kansas, falling in all three conference matches. The Falcons were unable to find a win against Spartanburg Methodist, Haskell Indian Nations University, or Florida National University, despite strong individual performances.
Game One: Fisher College 0, Spartanburg Methodist University 3 (Final)
In the first game against Spartanburg Methodist, Fisher lost 1-3. The match scores were 25-22, 11-25, 16-25, and 19-25.
Senior Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) led the way with 16 digs, while junior Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) contributed 10 kills and 13 digs. Senior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) posted 12 assists and 12 digs, and senior Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was a defensive standout with 27 digs and 2 service aces.
For Spartanburg, junior Aurora Aho (Duncan, S.C.) and junior Leilani Campbell (Florence, S.C.) each had 9 kills, and freshman Brook Noe (Inman, S.C.) provided 24 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Hana Vucinic (Pula, Croatia) had 29 digs in a stellar defensive effort.
Game Two: Fisher College 1, Haskell Indian Nations University 3 (Final)
In game two, Fisher fell 0-3 to Haskell Indian Nations University. The match scores were 11-25, 22-25, and 23-25.
Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.) led the attack with 7 kills, while Tkach contributed 4 kills and 8 digs for the Falcons offense. Farinacci posted 12 assists, 9 digs, and 3 service aces. Irizarry led the Falcons defensively with 19 digs.
For Haskell, sophomore Tressa Jim (Mayetta, Kan.) and senior Mikeya Sheppard (Tuba City, Ariz.) each had 11 kills, and Sheppard added 15 digs. Sophomore Jaspen Ellenwood (Lewiston, Id.) recorded 22 assists, and freshman Alaina Dugi (Tuba City, AZ) had 23 digs.
Game Three: Fisher College 0, Florida National University 3 (Final)
The final match of the day saw Fisher fall 0-3 to Florida National University. The match scores were 15-25, 13-25, and 17-25.
Tkach had 9 kills, while classmate Olivia Hamel (Estes Park, Colo.) added 4 kills. Farinacci contributed 13 assists, and Irizarry posted a strong defensive effort with 26 digs. Freshman Sofia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) also had 11 digs.
For Florida National, freshman Sara Lizano Joya (Lima, Peru) and senior Elis Cordova Millet (Montour Falls, N.Y.) each recorded 7 kills, while junior Ivette Sandoval (Miami, Fla.) contributed 18 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Emily Robello (Kissimmee, Fla.) added 10 assists.
Fisher will look to bounce back as they face Haskell once again tomorrow at 1 p.m. All teams will return to complete the volleyball weekend starting at 8:30am.
