Women's Volleyball: Falcons pick up a victory in final day at CAC Classic

LAWRENCE, KAN. - Fisher College received a split result in their doubleheader at Lawrence, Kansas. The Falcons secured a 3-1 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University in the first match but were swept 0-3 by Florida National University in the second. The split sends the Falcons to a 14-12 overall record.

Game One: Fisher College 3, Haskell Indian Nations University 1 (Final)

In the first match against Haskell, Fisher triumphed 3-1, with match scores of 25-22, 26-24, 27-29, and 25-20.

The Falcons were led by junior Caroline Saucier (Sarasota, Fla.), who posted 12 kills, 4 service aces, and a block. Senior Olivia Hamel (Estes Park, Colo.) added 11 kills and a block, while senior Ali Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) contributed 11 kills and 16 digs. Senior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) tallied 18 assists, while junior Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) dished out 26 assists. Defensive highlights included senior Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) with 41 digs and sophomore Sofia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) adding 19 digs.

Haskell's sophomore Tressa Jim (Mayetta, Kan.) led her team with 15 kills, and senior Mikeya Sheppard (Tuba City, Ariz.) had 14 kills and 20 digs. Freshman Alaina Dugi (Tuba City, Ariz.) posted 26 digs in a strong defensive showing for Haskell. Sophomore Grace Moses-Watchman (Pendleton, Ore.) and classmate Jaspen Ellenwood (Lewiston, Id.) both were able to chip in 11 assists in the teams win.

Game Two: Fisher College 0, Florida National University 3 (Final)

The second match of the day saw Fisher fall 0-3 to Florida National University, with match scores of 14-25, 14-25, and 16-25.

Velazquez led the Fisher offense with 6 kills and 9 digs, while Tkach contributed 5 kills and 13 digs. Farinacci added 8 assists, and freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) posted 6 assists. Campos once again contributed defensively with a game high of 18 digs.

Florida National's junior Ivette Sandoval (Miami, Fla.) was a key contributor, recording 19 assists and 13 digs. Senior Taylor Purdy (Mackinaw, Ill.) led the offense adding 14 digs. Freshmen Keelee Okoro (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Layla Cortez (Miami, FL) each had 5 kills for Flordia National.

Looking ahead, Fisher College will return home to face Lesley College on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 p.m. Haskell Indian Nations University will travel to Bethany College on October 15th at 1:30 p.m., while Florida National University will play Trinity Baptist College at home on October 22nd at 10:30 a.m.
