Women's Volleyball: Falcons conclude regular season with split at Mount Holyoke

HADLEY, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team split a pair of matches on the road this afternoon. The pair of matches send Fisher to an overall record of 20-14 for their regular season. The hosting Mount Holyoke finishes the day with 12-11 record, while Bridgewater State University slides to a 10-8 record.

Game One: Fisher College 3, Bridgewater State University 0 (Final)

The Falcons dominated the opener of the double-header to the Bears by set scores of 27-25, 25-22, and 25-16.

Senior Alicia Tkach (Middleton, Mass.) paced the offensive attack for the Falcons as she gathered 15 kills and 15 digs. Senior Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) added 4 kills, handed out 10 assists, and had 3 serve ace points. Freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) contributed 8 kills herself, while classmate Alondra Farinacci (Ponce, Puerto Rico) dished out 19 assists. The defensive effort for the Falcons was led by senior libero Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) having 21 digs during the match securing the Falcons victory.

Bridgewater saw sophomore Lily Welch (Hanson, Mass.) register the team-high of 7 kills as junior Meaghan Coutu (Brookline, N.H.) added 6 kills in the loss. Sophomore Xin Ai Robinson (Kaiserslautern, Germany) was the assist leader for the Bears with 11 helpers while graduate student Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) chipped in 10 assists as well. Sophomore Lilly Misay (New Bedford, Mass.) led the team defensively with 13 digs.

Game Two: Fisher College 1, Mount Holyoke College 3 (Final)

The day continued for Fisher as they now battled Mount Holyoke College. The Falcons lost the four-set match by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, and 16-25.

Tkach once again led the team offensively as she totaled 12 kills and 13 digs. Irizarry collected 25 digs while sophomore Sofia Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) added 14. Farinacci collected 15 digs as well as the team high of 17 assists. each in the Falcons effort. Velazquez followed close behind recording 14 assists over the foursets. Freshman Natalia Ramirez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) played her part contributing 9 kills as well as 2 serve ace points for the Falcon loss.

Junior Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wisc.) was the offensive leader for the Lyons as she recorded 12 kills over the five sets. Sophomore Sariah Putnam (Stockton Calif.) recorded 20 kills while Barton was able to chip in 12 kills as well as 18 digs. Sophomore Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) collected the team high of 20 digs along with 4 serve ace points. Junior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) added 29 assists. While senior Barah Burns (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with 15 helpers for the Lyons.

Fisher will hope to be on the court for the post-season Conference Tournament and anticipate traveling to Tampa, Florida for the games. Bridgewater State University will be back in action November 9 as they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a start time of 12pm. The Lyons will be traveling as well as they play Clark University November 5 with a start time of 7pm.
