The Lady Falcons Aim For Ten As They Take On The Bengals Saturday Afternoon

Boston, MA- The Women's Basketball team just keeps on rolling as they are coming off their fourth straight win on Wednesday evening over the University of Maine-Machias, 94-69. The Falcons were down at the half for just the second time this season, 43-40, and came back to outscore the Clippers 54-26 in the final two quarters to complete the season sweep while earning their highest point total of the season.  In their nine wins this season, the average margin of victory is 23 points, while holding their opponents to just 32% shooting from the floor.  The team has also forced 192 opponent turnovers, good for an average 19 per game.  Coach Jesse Ford and his squad will look to make it five in a row as they take on the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals (9-1) Saturday afternoon, a team they have already defeated this season 77-67 back on November 3rd.  The loss to the Falcons is the Bengals only loss this season, and the team has won eight straight since.

The Falcons will continue to ride the hot hands of Juniors Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA), Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) and Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) who have provided much of the offense this season for their squad, averaging 20.8ppg, 15.3ppg, and 12.8ppg respectively.  Gaston will look to stay hot as she is coming off two great games and was chosen as this week's Player of The Week for her efforts as she has scored 49 points in the last two wins.  Freshman Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) continues to play well coming off the bench as she now leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.8 per game and has scored in double figures two out of the last three games, including her first double-double as a Falcon. In their previous meeting with the Bengals, Lara and Gaston led the way for the Falcons as they combined for 58 of the 77 points scored in the win, with Hazard leading the way in boards with a season high 14.

UMFK is led offensively by Tajaheray McMahan who is currently averaging 21.1 points per game, including three games in which she has scored at least 25 points.  McMahan was the leading scorer in the previous loss to the Falcons as she dropped 21 in the losing effort. Trinity Washington is the other Bengal to average in double figures in their nine wins with 16.7 ppg, although she was held to just nine points in the previous meeting.  The Falcons will look to shut these two players down in order to secure their fifth victory in a row.

The two teams will square off at 3pm this Saturday afternoon on the home court of the Falcons at the Winsor School in Boston, MA.
